Local Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed an additional €6.3m in funding announced today for domestic, sexual and gender-based violence (DSGBV) services following a targeted open call.

As part of the funding announced, Women’s Aid Dundalk will receive €300,310.00 and Drogheda Women’s Refuge will receive €169,000.00.

Senator McGreehan said: “The funding announced today will be of immense help to Women’s Aid Dundalk and Drogheda Women’s Refuge. I want to thank both organisations for the hugely important work they do to tackle domestic, sexual and gender-based violence and in supporting victims.

“Both organisations do this work with stretched resources and make such an enormous difference for so many people. I am delighted that the government has announced this funding to help them with the necessary supports and to staffing is there to meet the high demand that is there.

“Domestic and gender-based violence and sexual assault continue to plague communities. It leaves countless victims traumatised and silenced. The state must continue to fund organisations like these that help victims to the maximum extent possible.

“The extent of the work that they do is staggering. They must be supported in order to help as many victims to the best standard possible and enable them to do even more beyond the vital work they are already doing.”
