Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan, has welcomed the allocation of €42,500 for Carlingford Library under the Historic Structures Fund.
The announcement of the Historic Structures Fund was announced today by her party colleague and Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan.
The funding of €3.5 million will be awarded to 28 projects throughout the country to help repair and protect landmark buildings as part of this year’s funding. The aim of the Fund is to conserve, protect, and promote the use of historic buildings across our cities, towns, villages, and countryside.
Welcoming the news McGreehan said: “I am absolutely delighted to hear that Carlingford Library has been allocated €42,500 today under this Fund. It is essential we preserve and protect our historical buildings in rural and local communities right across the country.
“Carlingford Library is an important historical building in North Louth, and its preservation and protection is most welcome to my constituents and I. This library has served the community for decades,” she said.
“The funding will go towards repairs to the arch steeled windows to bring part of this into public use again.
Concluding McGreehan said: “We pride ourselves in this country on our heritage, and by preserving historical buildings such as these will ensure our heritage will never wain. I’d like to thank my part colleague Minister Christopher O’Sullivan on his important work on this project.
