Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan, has welcomed the announcement of €1 million in additional Government funding to repair regional and local roads damaged by Storm Chandra.
The funding forms part of a €40 million package announced by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien to support local authorities in repairing severe storm damage to roads and bridges.
Deputy McGreehan said:
“Storm Chandra caused serious and significant damage to roads here in Louth, and this additional funding will allow essential repair works to be carried out.
“Our regional and local roads are vital for connecting communities and ensuring people can travel safely every day. It is important that damaged roads are restored as quickly as possible.
“I welcome the Government’s decision to provide this additional funding, recognising the exceptional costs local authorities have faced following the storm.
“This €1 million allocation will help Louth County Council undertake the necessary repairs and ensure our road network remains safe and resilient for everyone who relies on it.”
Following assessments carried out earlier this year, approximately 130 roads nationwide were found to require complete reconstruction, while more than 440 roads sustained significant damage. A number of bridge structures were also damaged and made impassable.
The €40 million funding package will enable the local authorities most affected by Storm Chandra to undertake the necessary works to restore regional and local roads.
