Louth Senator and Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Disability, Erin McGreehan, has welcomed the significant expansion of the Free Travel Scheme.
From July 29th, people with epilepsy who lose their driving license due to a diagnosis of epilepsy or breakthrough seizures can apply online to be automatically given access to a free travel pass.
Welcoming the expansion, Senator McGreehan said: “The expansion of the Free Travel Scheme to people with epilepsy who have never been able to drive due to the condition is hugely welcome news.
“Since I came into the Seanad I have raised the expansion of the Free Travel Scheme consistently on behalf of people with epilepsy and other conditions.
“This expansion will make a real difference and will make a real change for a lot of people.
“The expansion will cover people with epilepsy who have never been able to drive due to the condition and are medically certified as not fit to drive for a period of 12 months or longer.
“I encourage all who qualify to apply for the Scheme online at www.gov.ie/freetravel.”
