Louth Senator Erin McGreehan has said that Louth County Council must introduce traffic calming measures in Toberona area as well as on the R177, due to heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) travelling to the new 410,000 sq. ft. Smyths Toys warehouse in the Dundalk North Business Park.

Speaking on this, Senator Erin McGreehan said that “I have been informed by people locally of Toberona that HGV’s are travelling this road to get to the Smyth’s Toys warehouse. This road is accessible by coming off the motorway at Junction 17.”

“These HGV’s are travelling on rural roads, not fit for such vehicles and posing a safety risk to all road users. This is in addition to the concerns I have previously raised about traffic on the R177 road.”

“I am calling for Louth County Council to review the level of traffic on the road and introduce traffic calming measures to protect drivers from the increased HGV traffic.”
