Local Fianna Fáil TD Erin McGreehan has welcomed confirmation that fifteen new special classes will be introduced across Louth for the 2025/2026 school year.

The Louth TD said the classes will provide much-needed support for students with complex special educational needs.

Following the announcement, Deputy McGreehan said: “I am delighted to receive confirmation that thirteen schools will be opening new special classes in Louth next year. This is an important step in ensuring that children with additional needs have the opportunity to learn and thrive in an inclusive setting within their local community.

McGreehan is an avid advocate for special education, and raised the issue of places in special education for children with ASD last week with Minister of State, Michael Moynihan.

“Last week in the Dáil I raised the issue of special ASD places in schools about the fear being placed on families not knowing about school places for their children. I am delighted to hear of fifteen special classes being provided to thirteen schools in Louth,” she said.

“More classes are expected to be announced soon, which will further enhance our ability to meet the needs of students requiring extra support. 

“Ensuring access to quality education for every child remains a top priority for Fianna Fáil in Government. I will continue to work closely with the Minister and my party colleague Michael Moynihan, local schools, families, and the Department to secure further investment in special education across Louth and beyond.”
