Party will recruit an extra 5,000 Gardaí.

General Election candidate for Louth Erin McGreehan has said Fianna Fáil will recruit more Gardaí and work to make sure our communities are safe for everyone.

McGreehan she said Fianna Fáil recognises anti-social behaviour is a scourge on our communities and is determined to tackle it head on.

She said: “We all know the terribly disruptive effect rampant anti-social behaviour is having on our communities. It must be tackled.

“One household in particular can cause mayhem, and absolutely disrupt the peace of a wider housing estate and surrounding community. This needs to be dealt with, and it currently isn’t. Our parks and green spaces should be places we can all enjoy, not areas frequented by groups engaging in anti-social behaviour.

“Fianna Fáil will prioritise public safety and security because we believe it is central to social cohesion.”

McGreehan said: “We know that Louth, as a border county, faces issues with crime that other counties don’t.

“Fianna Fáil will tackle this by holding the Justice portfolio in Government.

“We will increase the number of Gardaí, by recruiting up to 5,000 Gardaí over the course of the next five years and plan for a medium-term force strength of 20,000 as recommended by the Garda Commissioner.

“This will have a direct positive impact on Louth, and if elected as a TD for Louth I will push hard for us to get more Gardaí on our streets in our communities, particularly near the border.”
