Louth Senator Erin McGreehan has stated that the HIQA Report highlights a serious lack of capacity at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda A&E Department.

She said: “There is a need for emergency contingency plans to ensure that people are not presenting to the emergency department when they could be seen by other healthcare professionals, whether that be GPs, primary healthcare centres, or the minor injury clinic in Dundalk.”

“We need to address this immediately as I am very concerned about the upcoming winter surge and Drogheda’s ability to cope with the demand. There must be a fast-tracking of plans for a larger A&E Department in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda and more beds in the hospital to meet the overall demands.”
