McGreehan calls for An Taoiseach Simon Harris to be invited to address Disability Matters Committee

Fianna Fáil Senator, Erin McGreehan, has asked if newly appointed Taoiseach Simon Harris could be invited to address the Disability Matters Committee.

McGreehan, who sits on the Committee and is Fianna Fáil’s Disability Spokesperson in the Seanad, has asked for the Committee to invite the Taoiseach to attend due to the focus he has recently placed on disability issues in the lead up to his recent election.

Senator McGreehan said: “I have asked that the Disability Matters Committee extends an invitation to An Taoiseach Simon Harris to attend a meeting of the Commitee at his earliest convenience.

“The request is timely and appropriate given the encouraging focus he has placed on disability issues.

“The Disability Matters Committee plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and initiatives that have a tangible and lasting impact on the lives of people with disabilities. The Committee has been entrusted by hundreds of individuals over the past four years to champion disability rights, so it is important that we try to place disability issues further in the spotlight with the election of the new Taoiseach.

“I have urged the members to consider the invitation and make the necessary arrangements to invite An Taoiseach Simon Harris to address the Committee.”

Senator McGreehan concluded by saying that she looked forward to discussing the invitation at the next Committee meeting.
