Fianna Fáil TD for Louth Erin McGreehan has welcomed signals from Government that measures to address rising energy prices are set to be brought forward next week.

Speaking on the issue, Deputy McGreehan said:

“In recent weeks, I have been in contact with many people through my constituency office who are anxious and worried. Many are reaching out for support, and there is real concern about what lies ahead. For some, access to warmth is essential for their health and safety.

“I am hopeful that the measures being brought forward next week will provide certainty and reassurance to those who are worried.”

Deputy McGreehan also acknowledged comments from the Taoiseach, noting that the situation remains complex and volatile, with multiple factors at play. She said the Government has been carefully monitoring developments to avoid a knee jerk reaction and to ensure that supports are targeted at those who need them most.

She added that Darragh O’Brien has assured the Irish Road Haulage Association that a support package, including sector specific measures for the haulage industry, will be brought to Cabinet for approval on Tuesday.

“Louth’s haulage sector, a cornerstone of our local economy, is under severe strain. Hauliers cannot absorb these unprecedented increases, and the knock-on effects will be felt across every supply chain in the country,” she concluded.
