Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has said the party is committed to supporting rural Ireland, protecting nature and supporting farmers as they continue their work as guardians of our environment.
Speaking after the passing of the Nature Restoration Law, Senator McGreehan said: “Our nitrates derogation is so important to so many farmers throughout the country.
“Fianna Fáil will continue to support farmers as they work to protect water quality.
“My party colleague, Minister McConalogue, has pledged that any restoration measures that landowners choose to participate in will be voluntary, well incentivised, and resourced.
“Ireland has already announced a €3.15 billion Climate and Nature Fund to support implementation. Farmers are committed to biodiversity and it is only right that they are provided with very strong funding separate to CAP to ensure that they are rewarded for any actions that they might voluntarily contribute to.
“I know that farmers are doing incredible work to be custodians of the land and I will continue to support this work and do everything I can to ensure farmers can thrive.”
