Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed the commencement of advance payments under the 2024 Eco-Scheme.

Under the scheme, 1,265 Louth farmers will receive payments totalling €2,383,962.

She said: “It is brilliant to see 1,265 payments totalling €2,383,962 to Louth farmers under the Eco-Scheme.

“The Eco-Scheme is really important because it rewards farmers for undertaking actions beneficial to the climate, environment, water quality and biodiversity.

“Eco-Scheme payments are a vital support for farmers introduced by Fianna Fail in Government and the payment rate in 2024 is €66.50 per eligible hectare.

“The Eco-Scheme payments build on the BISS and CRISS payments made to farmers.

“Farming and rural communities are at the heart of our country’s economic life and Fianna Fáil is committed to protecting farm incomes, and supporting a strong agrifood industry.”
