€200 million secured for the Shared Island Fund to complete the Narrow Water Bridge in Budget 2027

Erin McGreehan TD, Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, has welcomed today’s announcement of €200 million for the Shared Island Fund to support the completion of the Narrow Water Bridge, which will connect the Cooley Peninsula in Co. Louth to the Mourne Mountains in Co. Down.

Deputy McGreehan said:

“The funding provides the certainty and momentum needed to ensure delivery of this landmark cross‑border project, strengthen connectivity between Louth and Down, and unlock the full tourism and economic potential of the Carlingford Lough region.”

She added:

“The Narrow Water Bridge is a flagship Shared Island initiative that will enhance regional development, improve sustainable transport links, and deepen cooperation between communities North and South.”

“This investment ensures construction can progress at pace and keeps the project firmly on track for delivery. It is a major step forward for our region and for the Shared Island vision.”
