Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan, has welcomed the announcement that €15,955 has been awarded for the refurbishment of Tenure playground.

The funding forms part of a wider national package announced by the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, which will see €600,000 allocated to 30 local authorities under this year’s Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation.

Speaking on the announcement, Deputy McGreehan said:

“Playgrounds are vital for providing safe spaces for children in the heart of our communities. They are often the places where children interact with others for the first time and can play a crucial role in their development.

“This funding will be essential in improving access and maintenance so that more children and families can continue to enjoy our playgrounds.”

The Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation supports local authorities in improving access to quality play and recreation facilities within their communities. The scheme offers funding of up to €22,000 per project and will deliver positive impacts for children and families across the country.

Many of the projects funded this year place a strong focus on inclusion and accessibility, helping children with a diverse range of needs to benefit from high quality play facilities alongside their peers.
