Fianna Fáil Senator in Louth, Erin McGreehan, has welcomed the announcement of a major expansion of degree courses outside the Central Application Office (CAO) process. These degree courses start in a further education college and are completed in a university setting.
Applications are open from today for the first set of programmes, with further programmes to be added in the coming weeks. A course in Dundalk Institute of Technology, Audio and Music Production, has been included in the first set of programmes.
Senator McGreehan said: “It is excellent news that an Audio and Music Production course has been included today as part of the major expansion of degree courses outside the CAO process. It is so important that students know there are other options and alternatives to CAO points. The CAO process can place extreme stress and worry on young people who are trying to decide what they want to do in life so I am delighted that last year we launched the first degree courses outside the points system and that this has now been expanded.
“These courses are aimed at ensuring the points do not determine a student’s education choices or their career opportunities. I hope to see further Dundalk IT courses included in the further programmes that will be added in the coming weeks.”
