Local Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan has welcomed the commencement and signing of contracts by Louth County Council for 271 social homes in Louth.

The contracts were signed by David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council, and Cllr Kevin Callan, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council.

The contracts are worth approximately €90 million, and Deputy McGreehan has said this investment is a major step forward in housing delivery.

In December 2024, Louth County Council received funding approval from the DHLGH for the four projects under the Social Housing Capital Investment Programme (SHCIP). These schemes form part of the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ plan, with the projects set to deliver the most significant number of local authority direct-build social housing units in County Louth in recent years.

“I am delighted to hear the great news that their will be a further 271 social homes built in County Louth over the next 20 months,” she said.

“Housing is our number one priority in Fianna Fáil, and we aim to continue the momentum we have gained over the previous term on housing.

The developments included in this funding are: Bakery View, Ballymakenny Road, Drogheda (97 units); Greenhills Grange, Drogheda (46 units); Ravel Drive, Dunleer (70 units); and An Mullach, Louth Village (58 units) .

“This investment of around €90 million will enhance the communities of Drogheda, Dunleer, and Louth Village. Social home developments like these will be key in helping us achieve our Housing for All targets of 10,000 social homes per year until 2030.

In conclusion, Deputy McGreehan thanked all involved in the process of this development and looks forward to their delivery.

“I’d like to place on the record the hard work of Louth County Council, the Cathaoirleach, and my party colleague and Minister for Housing James Browne for all their hard work in ensuring the commencement of these social homes.

“I look forward to joining them all in 20 months’ time when all 271 units are completed, and when the 271 families have their forever home.
