Local Fianna Fáil Senator and Seanad Spokesperson on Spokesperson on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration, Erin McGreehan, has said she fears the announcement from Saint John of Gods that it will transfer all service provision to the HSE will cause undue stress on families and service users.
Senator McGreehan said: “I am surprised that this decision has been announced today by Saint John Of Gods and I fear it will cause undue stress on families and service users.
I am disappointed in the lack of engagement Saint John of Gods had with the HSE and very surprised by this quick reaction to a letter that Bernard Gloster wrote to St John of Gods on the 15th of February when, I believe, €20m was offered to ensure services would be delivered and no deficit would be accrued in 2024.
Having sought clarity from the Department today about the extremely serious issue of a provider as large as St. John of Gods choosing to leave the sector, I want to reassure all that section 38 workers are secure and that all service users will receive the same care as before.
I must acknowledge that there is huge trust and confidence between St John of Gods and the service users.
I have been assured that if the transfer comes to pass it will be dealt with effectively and without any disruption to staff of users of the service.”
