Fianna Fáil TD for Louth Erin McGreehan has welcomed over €140,000 to fund two new response jeeps in Co Louth under the Government’s 2026 CLÁR programme.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, announced €2.5 million to deliver 44 vehicles under the programme.

In County Louth, the funding will go towards:

• €79,363 for Boyne Fishermens Rescue & Recovery Service to purchase a response jeep for first response along the river Boyne.

• €60,800 for Dundalk Aqua Search and Rescue to purchase a response jeep providing water search and rescue response.

The CLÁR programme, which now benefits over one million people, funds small-scale infrastructure projects in designated rural areas through a range of different measures. This latest round of funding is in respect of Measure 2 (Mobility, Cancer Care, First Responder and Meals on Wheels Transport).

Speaking following the announcement, Deputy McGreehan said: “These community services make a real difference in rural communities. This funding of over €140,000 will help empower these vitally important community and voluntary organisations delivering much needed search and rescue services.

“Boyne Fishermens Rescue & Recovery Service and Dundalk Aqua Search and Rescue are receiving much needed funds for their vital search and rescue services under this Government investment. It is a practical investment that will support these organisations in the important work they do every day.”

“Communities across County Louth rely on the dedication of local volunteers and community groups. This investment will help ensure they have the resources they need to continue supporting people who might otherwise struggle to access vital services and supports.”

CLÁR is a targeted investment programme for rural areas that provides funding for small scale infrastructural projects in communities that have experienced significant levels of depopulation.
