Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan, has been named an ambassador for the Marie Keating Foundation’s 100K in 30 Days challenge this June.

The 100K in 30 Days challenge is a nationwide movement campaign encouraging people to walk, run, wheel, swim or move 100 kilometres throughout the month of June while raising vital funds to support men and women affected by cancer across Ireland.

Founded by Ronan Keating and his siblings following the loss of their mother Marie 28 years ago, the Marie Keating Foundation officially launched its flagship national fundraising challenge at an event in the Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge last week.

The foundation provides free nationwide cancer awareness and support services for people affected by cancer including nurse-led community outreach through mobile information units, survivorship programmes and financial assistance for those undergoing treatment.

With less than five percent of its income coming from statutory funding, initiatives such as 100K in 30 Days are vital to sustaining these services.

‘100km in 30 Days’ was founded by Louth couple Niall Carroll and Cara McAdam in 2020, after Cara was diagnosed with breast cancer. An avid runner, Cara continued to run throughout her treatment, inspiring the creation of the challenge. The fundraiser went on to raise more than €4 million. The responsibility for the fundraiser has now officially been handed over to the Marie Keating Foundation.

Speaking after the launch, Deputy McGreehan said:

“It is an honour to be named an ambassador for an organisation that does so much good and offers so much support to people impacted by cancer.

“There is not a family in Ireland that has not been affected by cancer. Organisations like the Marie Keating Foundation need all the support they can get and initiatives like 100K in 30 Days are an innovative way to raise both awareness and funding that will ultimately help people who need it most.

“I would encourage anyone interested to get involved and take part in the challenge. It is a great opportunity to try something new and challenge yourself while supporting a very worthy cause.

“Every kilometre completed this June will help us continue to provide free life-saving services.”

Registration for the challenge is now open at 100K in 30 Days.
