Deputy Erin McGreehan TD says the opening of more than 170 new social and age‑friendly homes across Louth is a “significant step forward” in local housing delivery.

Deputy McGreehan was joined by Minister for Housing, James Browne TD, and Minister of State, Kieran O’Donnell TD, at three major housing developments across the county.

The first stop was Dundalk, where Phase One of the Fulacht Fia development at Mount Avenue was officially opened. This phase comprises 52 new social homes, with a total of 93 homes to be delivered when the scheme is completed.

Speaking at the opening, Deputy McGreehan said the development would make a real difference to families in the area.

“Fulacht Fia will make a real difference for dozens of families in Dundalk and is a welcome addition to the town,” she said.

The next stop was Drogheda, where Greenhills Grange was officially opened. The development provides 46 age‑friendly units, including 45 two‑bedroom bungalows and an assisted living bungalow, designed to support older residents to live independently within their community.

Deputy McGreehan said the scheme reflected the importance of planning for an ageing population.

“Greenhills Grange shows what age‑friendly housing should look like; homes that allow older people to remain independent and close to community and services,” she said.

The final stop of the day was the official opening of Boice Court in Drogheda, a 72‑unit social housing development.

Deputy McGreehan said the scale of delivery across the three developments demonstrated real momentum in Louth.

“To see over 170 homes opened across Louth in a single day is hugely positive. These homes will change lives. Louth needs continued delivery like this, and today’s openings demonstrate that progress is being made,” she said.

Deputy McGreehan also welcomed the presence of both Ministers in Louth, saying it highlighted the county’s importance in national housing delivery.

“Having the Ministers for Housing here on the ground sends a clear signal that Louth matters and that housing delivery in our towns is a priority.”

Since 2020, 2,409 first-time buyers in Louth have accessed Help to Buy to buy or build their first home.

Speaking on this, Deputy McGreehan said:

“These figures underline how vital these supports are for people trying to buy a home in the county.”

Newly published figures show there was a 32.9% increase in housing completions in the first three months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, marking the highest level of Q1 completions since 2011.

A total of 7,856 new homes were completed between January and March 2026, up from 5,938 in Q1 2025. Of those completions, 364 were in Louth.
