Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan, has welcomed the allocation of €50,000 under the 2026 Historic Structures Fund (HSF) for works to the Former Carlingford Presbyterian Church, Newry Street, Carlingford, Co. Louth.
The funding will support re-slating of the roof and ancillary lead repairs to protect and preserve the historic building. The application was submitted by Visit Carlingford Ltd.
Deputy McGreehan said:
“This is a very welcome investment for Carlingford and will help protect an important historic building in the heart of the town.”
The funding forms part of a national allocation announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, and Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD, to support 40 projects nationwide.
The Historic Structures Fund aims to conserve, protect, and promote the use of historic buildings across our cities, towns, villages, and countryside. The scheme operates on a match-funding basis, with owners and custodians contributing towards the overall cost of works.
Deputy McGreehan concluded:
“I want to commend Visit Carlingford Ltd for their work in bringing this project forward and their ongoing commitment to preserving local heritage.
“I also want to thank Minister Browne and Minister O’Sullivan for their support in delivering this funding. I hope to see this fund continue to deliver for the people of Louth into the future.”
