Westgate House set to THRIVE again – bringing vibrancy and life back to Drogheda! – McGreehan

€90m nationwide for heritage sites through co-funded THRIVE

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan is delighted at the announcement this morning that €7 million will be allocated to Westgate House in Drogheda.

Under THRIVE that is co-funded by the Government and the EU, it enables local authorities to upgrade and adapt heritage buildings in their location to bring them back to life, creating a vibrant and more sustainable Ireland.

Expressing her delight at the investment for Westgate House McGreehan said, “I am delighted to see Westgate House prioritized in the most recent allocation of funding nationwide under THRIVE.

“THRIVE is all about bringing our towns and villages back to life. We have a great heritage here in Louth, and by adapting the site at Westgate House, we will really create a vibrant environment when the works are carried out.

€7 million has been allocated to the project at the site, with the aim of the project to provide a multi-functional cultural and community hub, including theatre/performance space and roof top public garden.

“It is essential that we preserve cultural sites such as this and give them new life. It will become an attractive local hotspot again with its new roof top garden, and allow it to be an asset to the local community through the provision of it having a theatre/performance space, something I know will go down well with locals.

“I’d like to place on the record my thanks to my party colleagues in Fianna Fáil, Minister James Browne and Minister Christopher O’Sullivan, and also my colleagues in the European Union for allocating the substantial funding under THRIVE.

“I am in no doubt that the €90m in funding will preserve many cultural assets all over the country. I believe this is pivotal in maintaining our proud heritage whilst also ensuring we have more sustainable communities across the island.
