Louth TD Erin McGreehan has said the loss of 70 jobs at heating company Glen Dimplex’s plant in Dunleer is devastating for the workers and their families as well as the wider community.
She has confirmed she is engaging with the Minister for Enterprise, Minister for Further and Higher Education and all relevant state agencies on the matter.
She said: “I have been engaging with Glen Dimplex on this and I am devastated for the employees that will now lose their jobs.
“I have received assurance from the R&D section that there will still be a Glen Dimplex workforce in the campus in Dunleer. However, the manufacturing section is gone.
“We must now work to support those employees and offer any support that they need. I have engaged with Glen Dimplex and I will be continuing to engage with the Minister for Trade and Enterprise, as well as the Minister for Higher Education in the coming days on this.
“This is hugely important to me and the wider community. I will be asking both Ministers for a meeting on how we go about providing supports, such as educational upskilling supports for those workers made redundant.
“I will continue to work and advocate for further investment in the area.”
