Louth Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed the announcement of Ireland’s first mobile lung health check unit pilot, set to commence in Louth. It represents a significant step forward in the early detection and treatment of lung cancer.
‘I welcome the introduction of the mobile unit to our community. By bringing this service directly to the people, it allows for an easier, faster and more convenient way for people to have their lungs checked for free’.
GP practices will review patient records to identify current or former smokers aged between 55 and 74 who qualify for the program. These individuals will be contacted by the lung health check team in early 2025 to undergo a telephone assessment of their risk.
