Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed confirmation that four Louth schools are among the selected Phase One Schools which will be the first to offer the new Leaving Certificate subject of Drama, Film and Theatre Studies and Climate Action from the start of the 2025/26 school year.

These schools are St. Joseph’s CBS, Drogheda; De La Salle College, Dundalk, Ardee Community School and O’Fiaich College, Dundalk.

Senator McGreehan said: “Minister Foley has confirmed to me that there was massive interest from schools of all types in Louth in taking part in this first phase of delivering the new Leaving Certificate subjects of Drama, Film and Theatre Studies.

“I am pleased that four schools will participate in phase one.

“The addition of these subjects to the curriculum is a positive step forward. They will give the opportunity not just to reflect the talent and skills and interests of our young people, but to validate them, so that a student who takes drama film and theatre studies or takes climate action and sustainability, that their achievement in education is on a similar par of the student who takes science or languages.

“I am pleased for the students in the four schools here in Louth who will experience Drama, Film and Theatre Studies at Senior Cycle in this initial phase and who will have the opportunity to develop their interests, strengths and talents in these areas.”
