Local Fianna Fáil Senator, Erin McGreehan has hailed the further commitment of €100 million to the First Home Scheme. The announcement of additional funding was announced today by party colleague and Minister for Housing, Darragh O’Brien.
The First Home Scheme was introduced to help first-time buyers to bridge the gap between their mortgage, deposit and the price of a new home and has been a huge success.
There have been over 5,400 buyers approved since the scheme began, and there has been a sharp rise in demand in the first six months of the year, with an increase of 43% on the same period last year.
Speaking on the additional funding Senator McGreehan said: “I am thrilled today to hear the announcement from my party colleague and Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien of further funding for the First Home Scheme to the value of €100 million”.
“To own your own home is something people right across this country work very hard for, and this is a goal people can achieve through the assistance of the First Home Scheme.”
“Housing schemes like the First Home Scheme are assisting first-time buyers purchase their own home, with 500 first time buyers drawing down mortgages each week.”
“In the first 7 months of the year, there have been 35,358 commencements on houses right across the country, which is almost double from the same time period last year.”
