Fianna Fáil Senator in Louth Erin McGreehan has welcomed confirmation that €7 million has been allocated to properties in Co Louth under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF)’s latest call with 128 vacant and derelict properties in Co Louth
The third round of URDF was announced in January last year. It aims to address long term vacancy and dereliction across cities and towns.
The fund is available to all Local Authorities to cover the purchase price of properties (residential and commercial) and any minor works required to make the property more suitable for sale.
Acquired properties are then offered for private sale to those who in return will commit to bringing the property back into residential use. Purchasers of these properties are also able to defray the costs of returning them to use by accessing the Vacant and Derelict Property Refurbishment Grant, the SEAI energy efficiency grants or the Repair and Leasing Scheme subject to eligibility.
Senator McGreehan said: “I’m delighted to receive confirmation from Minister Darragh O’Brien that 128 properties in town centre locations in Louth have been identified and approved funding under Call 3 which amounts to €7m.
“The most efficient home to deliver is one that already exists. In Government Fianna Fáil want vacant properties in cities, towns and villages across the country to become homes – giving people the opportunity to live and participate in their local communities.
“My party colleagues and I have placed a huge emphasis on the regeneration and rejuvenation of towns and are committed to tackling the issue of vacant and derelict properties in our communities and increasing housing supply across the country.”
