Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed the opening of the 2024 Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme worth €1.5 million.
The grant scheme is run in partnership with the Heritage Council, and invests in the conservation of traditional farm buildings and structures of significant heritage value that contribute to our rural landscape.
The scheme funds the conservation and preservation of traditional farm buildings and structures such as historic yard surfaces, gates and gate pillars as part of the working farm. Many of the supported structures also provide roosting sites for bats and nesting sites for birds.
Senator McGreehan said: “I’m pleased to see an increased budget of €1.5 million announced by my Fianna Fáil colleague Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue TD. The scheme will allow farmers to continue to renovate and repurpose farm buildings. I would encourage all those farmers with farm buildings that may be eligible for the grant to apply for this innovative scheme by logging onto www.heritagecouncil.ie before March 27.
“Fianna Fáil in government is committed to preserving our heritage and this scheme allows us to do that by assisting farmers. I look forward to seeing projects being completed in the coming year.”
