33,784 homes started nationwide in first six months of this year

Louth Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed new figures showing 1,465 new homes have commenced construction in Louth in the first six months of this year.

This represents a 107.2% increase on the same period in 2023, when 758 homes commenced construction.

Nationwide, a total of 33,784 homes started construction between January and the end of June. This figure is more than double (up 117%) from the 15,561 units commenced in the first half of 2023.

Senator McGreehan said: “I’m delighted to have received confirmation from my party colleague, Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien, that 1,465 new homes were commenced here in Louth in the first six months of this year, an increase on the same period last year.

“Not only are the number of new residential homes being built in Louth increasing, the figures nationwide are also rising, up 117% on the same period last year.

“Fianna Fáil’s top priority in government remains doing everything we can to help people to afford to buy or rent a home.

“These statistics are evidence that our Housing for All plan is working and my focus is on doing whatever I can to keep this positive momentum going.”
